A PhD is an advanced research and training experience that enables you to develop valuable skills applicable to a wide range of professional environments, well beyond academia.

 

Discover Career Paths for PhD Students is a fully online event dedicated to PhD students at Politecnico di Milano, designed to explore career opportunities after a PhD, discover available career guidance and development services, and learn from those who have already navigated this transition.

 

The event will also feature Prof. Daniele Rocchi, Director of the PhD School at Politecnico di Milano, who will deliver a talk during the session.

 

The event will consist of two main sessions:

 

1. Services and Opportunities for PhD Students

The first session will introduce the activities, events and services offered by the Career Service specifically for PhD students, focusing on career guidance, opportunities to connect with companies and professional development.

 

2. Career Talk: Career Paths after a PhD

A series of Career Talks featuring PhD Alumni from Politecnico di Milano, representing different academic backgrounds and professional paths.

Through individual talks, each speaker will share their career journey, discussing the choices that shaped their professional development after completing their PhD, the opportunities they encountered, the challenges they faced and how the skills acquired during their research experience have contributed to their careers.

 

Each talk will be followed by a Q&A session, giving participants the opportunity to engage directly with the speaker and explore specific aspects of their professional journey.

 

Featured speakers include:

 

• Elena Giunta – PhD in Design and Multimedia Communication from Politecnico di Milano, Co-founder and Design Director at Studio SHIFT, where she focuses on strategic design, service design and social innovation.

 

• Alessandra Oppio – PhD graduate of Politecnico di Milano and Full Professor of Real Estate Appraisal and Project Evaluation at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies. Former Director of Alta Scuola Politecnica, she currently serves as Rector's Delegate for Transnational Education and Strategic Projects.

 

• Nicole Daniela Nasello – PhD in Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (2024). She currently works as an Innovation Specialist in the R&D and Innovation team at Snam Research & Technology Center, focusing on research and innovation in the energy sector.
