The morning session of Beyond Academia: Career Day for PhD & Postdocs will be dedicated to seminars and discussion opportunities designed for PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and recent PhD graduates interested in exploring career paths outside academia.

 

During the morning, you will have the opportunity to hear from PhD and Postdoc Alumni, engage with professionals and recruiters, and receive practical advice on how to make the most of your research profile in the job market.

Building Careers Beyond Academia: PhD & Postdoc Stories

 

A roundtable discussion with PhD and Postdoc Alumni from Politecnico di Milano who have pursued professional careers in companies, research centres and other contexts beyond academia.

 

During the session, speakers will share their experiences and explain how they have leveraged their research background in professional fields outside the university.

 

By attending this session, you will be able to:

 

  • hear about different career experiences;
  • understand which skills developed during a PhD or postdoc can be valued outside academia;
  • gather useful suggestions to help you navigate the job market;
  • ask questions to those who have already experienced a professional transition beyond the university.

Beyond the CV: How Employers Assess Research Talent

 

A seminar focused on how companies, organisations and recruiters assess PhD and Postdoc profiles during selection processes.

The session will help participants understand which aspects of research experience are most valued by employers and how to effectively present their academic background in CVs and interviews.

 

By attending this session, you will be able to:

 

  • understand how companies read and assess a PhD or Postdoc profile;
  • discover which research skills are most in demand;
  • receive guidance on how to highlight your academic path;
  • engage with professionals interested in profiles with research experience.

Mentoring Sessions with PhD & Postdoc Alumni

 

An informal discussion session with PhD and Postdoc Alumni from Politecnico di Milano who have pursued professional careers outside academia.

 

Participants will take part in small-group conversations with Alumni at dedicated tables. It will be possible to rotate between tables, engage with different profiles, ask questions and gather practical advice on career development, the transition to the labour market and how to make the most of research skills.
