Welcome to the section dedicated to activating internships. Here you will find all the information and tools you need to start a training experience in line with your goals. An internship is a concrete opportunity to get in touch with the job market, develop practical skills, and enhance your studies.

Whether you are a student, a recent graduate, or a company/organization interested in hosting interns, this page will guide you step by step through the activation process, in compliance with current regulations.

Internships for graduates

Types of Internships

Target group	Students enrolled in bachelor’s or master’s degree programs
Purpose	It is an integral part of the study plan, or chosen in place of an exam, and allows students to earn academic credits (CFU).
Role of the Politecnico	The University actively supervises the internship path and evaluates the consistency between the proposed activities and the learning objectives of the study program.
Activation	An internship agreement between the University and the host organization must be in place. Once the agreement is active, the internship request can be submitted and must be approved by the Academic Internship Structure (SAT) of the degree program
Duration	Defined by academic requirements (usually between 150 and 400 hours, depending on the program of study).
Allowance	Optional, but recommended

Target group	Enrolled students who wish to gain additional practical experience beyond what is required in their study plan
Purpose	Although not mandatory, it is considered part of the student’s educational pathway and is approved by the Politecnico
Role of the Politecnico	It does not award academic credits (CFU), but it enhances the student’s skills and professional profile
Activation	An internship agreement between the University and the host organization must be in place. Once the agreement is active, the internship can be requested and will require approval from the Career Service or the Academic Internship Structure (SAT) of the degree program
Duration	Flexible, agreed upon between the company and the student, and must be completed before graduation
Allowance	Optional but recommended
For the thesis	In case the internship is aimed at developing the thesis, the student is required to identify the Academic Supervisor in advance, who will also act as the Thesis Supervisor.

Target group	Graduates of the Politecnico di Milano within 24 months of obtaining their degree
Purpose	To support entry into the workforce through a post-graduation training experience
Role of the Politecnico	As the promoting institution, the Politecnico supports the activation process and monitors the progress of the internship
Activation	An internship agreement between the University and the host organization must be in place. Once the agreement is active, the internship can be requested and requires approval from the Career Service, typically within 5 working days
Duration	Up to 6 months (extendable to 12 months depending on regional regulations)
Allowance	A minimum financial compensation is required, as established by regional regulations

How to activate an internship?

Matching between Intern and Host Organization
1. Matching
The Host Organization selects the intern by posting an offer on the Career Service portal or by receiving an application through other channels. The candidate is usually chosen after an interview
University–Organization Agreement
2. Internship Agreement
Before the internship can be activated, the Host Organization must have an active agreement with the Politecnico di Milano. The agreement is completed online, defines the mutual rights and responsibilities and remains valid for future collaborations. It becomes active within 5 working days from signing.
Internship Request
3. Activation request
The activation request can be submitted online either by the Intern or the Host Organization. All required information must be completed to start the procedure.
Is it a mandatory curricular internship?
4. Academic Tutor Approval
If the internship is a mandatory curricular internship, approval from an Academic Tutor is required.
Receive the Internship Document
5. Internship Document
The Academic Internship Structure (SAT) or the Career Service verifies the information submitted and sends an email to both the intern and the organization with the link to view the Internship Document
Signature collection
6. Signed Internship Document
Both the Intern and the Host Organization must sign the Document via the portal. The organization signs digitally, while the intern signs with a simple click.
Internship Start Confirmation
7. The Internship can begin
The intern and the host organization receive a notification confirming the internship activation, and the countersigned Internship Document is available in the portal.
